MT-ND3 pseudogene 25 (MTND3P25) is a mitochondrially encoded pseudogene that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding gene MT-ND3, which encodes a core subunit of mitochondrial Complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase). Unlike its functional counterpart, MTND3P25 does not produce a functional protein, lacks a defined biochemical or cellular role, and is not classified as a therapeutic target. Most scientific and clinical interest relates to the functional MT-ND3 gene due to its involvement in mitochondrial diseases such as Leigh syndrome and Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, but MTND3P25 itself has no such association or mechanistic impact[1][3].
