Mitochondrially encoded NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 4 pseudogene 26 (MTND4P26)

Target
MTND4P26
Molecular classification
Pseudogene

Overview

MTND4P26 is a nuclear pseudogene homologous to the mitochondrial gene MT-ND4. It is a non-functional segment of DNA located in the nuclear genome, derived from past mitochondrial-to-nuclear DNA transfer. Unlike the functional mitochondrial MT-ND4 gene, which encodes a critical component of complex I in the electron transport chain, MTND4P26 lacks protein-coding potential due to mutations and truncations, and therefore does not perform any biological function. It is not considered a therapeutic target, nor is it relevant to disease biology, interacting drugs, or as a molecular biomarker. Although it may be detected in genetic testing, it is an annotated pseudogene clone with no standard biological or therapeutic relevance.
