Target intelligence / Profile preview
MT-ND5 pseudogene 27 (MTND5P27) is a pseudogene related by sequence homology to the mitochondrially encoded NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 5 gene (MT-ND5). Pseudogenes resemble known genes but contain mutations or sequence changes that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. MTND5P27 does not have a known protein product and is not a current focus of therapeutic intervention or biomarker development. The functional MT-ND5 gene encodes an essential core subunit of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I, which is involved in cellular energy production, but MTND5P27 does not participate in these biological activities.
