Overview

Mortality factor 4-like protein 2 (MORF4L2), also known as MORF2, is a member of the MRG family of proteins and a key component of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex (UniProt Q15014). It plays a critical role in chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation by facilitating the acetylation of histones H4 and H2A (PubMed: 11433365). Beyond transcription, MORF4L2 is involved in DNA damage repair, particularly through its interaction with the BRCA1-BARD1 complex in homologous recombination (PubMed: 21572988). In a clinical context, MORF4L2 is often overexpressed in various malignancies, including breast and cervical cancers, where it promotes cell proliferation and survival (PubMed: 28651084). While it is an area of active research for its role in oncogenesis and senescence, there are currently no approved therapeutic agents specifically targeting MORF4L2 (PubMed: 31235912).
