MRE11P1 is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 3 and is a nonfunctional homolog of the MRE11 (MRE11A) gene. Unlike the functional MRE11A gene, which encodes an essential protein component of the MRN complex involved in DNA double-strand break repair, homologous recombination, and telomere maintenance, the MRE11P1 pseudogene does not produce an active protein and has no known direct biological or disease function. Other aliases include MRE11B and hMRE11B[4][6].
