Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mucin 1 (MUC1) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is heavily O-glycosylated and expressed on the apical surfaces of epithelial cells. It functions as a protective barrier and participates in cell signaling. In cancer, MUC1 is often overexpressed and abnormally glycosylated, contributing to tumor progression. It is also used as a biomarker for certain cancers.
