Overview

N-alpha-acetyltransferase 15, NatA auxiliary subunit (NAA15) is the auxiliary subunit of the N-terminal acetyltransferase A (NatA) complex, one of the six major eukaryotic N-terminal acetyltransferase complexes. NAA15 partners with NAA10 (the catalytic subunit) to facilitate the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to the alpha-amino group of nascent polypeptides during translation, resulting in N-terminal acetylation, a modification critical for protein stability, subcellular localization, and interactions. NAA15 plays essential roles in vascular, hematopoietic, and neuronal development, and its deficiency impacts neurogenesis and can manifest in neurodevelopmental disorders, including intellectual disability and autism. Dysregulation of NAA15 expression has been implicated in various cancers, including papillary thyroid and gastric cancers[1][4][6][8]. NAA15 functions as part of larger multiprotein complexes and regulates activity together with other proteins such as HYPK and NAA50[2][3][8].
