NAD(P)H dehydrogenase [quinone] 2 (QR2)

Target
QR2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Flavoprotein
01

Overview

NAD(P)H dehydrogenase [quinone] 2 (QR2), also known as NQO2, is an enzyme involved in cellular detoxification. While originally classified as the MT3 melatonin receptor due to its affinity for certain melatonergic ligands, it primarily functions as a quinone reductase. It catalyzes the two- or four-electron reduction of quinones, contributing to cellular defense against oxidative stress. QR2 is a homodimeric flavoprotein containing FAD cofactors and zinc ions.

Mechanism of action

Reduces quinones via a ping-pong mechanism involving hydride transfer from reduced dihydronicotinamide riboside (NRH) to FAD, followed by reduction of the quinone substrate.
