NDUFA5P11, or NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit A5 pseudogene 11, is a pseudogene related to a subunit of mitochondrial complex I. Unlike its functional parent gene (NDUFA5), NDUFA5P11 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes are DNA segments that resemble known genes but lack coding potential due to mutations, deletions, or premature stop codons. Traditionally considered "genomic fossils," some pseudogenes, when transcribed, can nonetheless regulate parental genes or other cellular processes through their RNA. Functions of this kind include microRNA decoying, antisense regulation, or generating small interfering RNAs, though there is no documented evidence of NDUFA5P11 playing any such role[5]. It is not currently considered a direct therapeutic target, nor is it known to participate in drug interactions, serve as a biomarker, or present safety concerns for therapy.
