Overview

NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit B4 pseudogene 11 (NDUFB4P11) is a pseudogene located on chromosome 14 (14q32.11). Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically non-functional; they do not code for a functional protein due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. While some pseudogenes are transcribed into RNA and may rarely have regulatory effects on their parental genes, there is currently no evidence that NDUFB4P11 has any characterized function or clinical significance. This gene is part of the broader family of pseudogenes related to components of mitochondrial complex I, but, unlike functional NDUFB4, NDUFB4P11 does not encode a mitochondrial protein or participate in cellular respiration. Pseudogenes, including NDUFB4P11, are not considered classical therapeutic targets. There is growing interest in their noncoding RNA roles, but NDUFB4P11 itself has no established function, disease association, or relevance as a target in drug discovery or clinical medicine.

Biological functions

Pseudogenes do not encode functional proteins, but may regulate parent gene expression at the RNA level in rare cases through noncoding functions such as acting as RNA decoys, competing for microRNAs, or generating regulatory RNAs. There is no evidence NDUFB4P11 specifically has any such function.
03

Disease associations

No disease role established. In rare cases, pseudogenes can play regulatory roles in cancer or other diseases, but this is not established for NDUFB4P11.
