NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit B5 pseudogene 1 (NDUFB5P1)

Target
NDUFB5P1
Molecular classification
Other, Pseudogene (processed pseudogene)
01

Overview

NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase subunit B5 pseudogene 1 (NDUFB5P1) is classified as a processed pseudogene in humans. Unlike the active NDUFB5 gene, which encodes a subunit of mitochondrial respiratory Complex I involved in electron transfer from NADH to ubiquinone, NDUFB5P1 does not produce a functional protein. Pseudogenes like NDUFB5P1 generally result from duplication or retrotransposition events and typically lack the capacity for protein coding. There is no evidence that NDUFB5P1 is expressed or has a regulatory or pathogenic role in human biology.
