NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone]

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase, Complex I
01

Overview

NADH dehydrogenase is a key enzyme in cellular respiration, specifically functioning as the first enzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain (Complex I). It catalyzes the oxidation of NADH to NAD+, transferring electrons from NADH to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), which is then reduced to ubiquinol. This process is coupled with proton translocation across the inner mitochondrial membrane, contributing to ATP synthesis via oxidative phosphorylation.
