Target intelligence / Profile preview

NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] 1 subunit C2 (NDUFC2)

Target
NDUFC2
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Mitochondrial respiratory chain protein, Accessory subunit of Complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase)
01

Overview

NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] 1 subunit C2 (NDUFC2) is a nuclear-encoded accessory subunit of mitochondrial complex I, the first and largest enzyme of the electron transport chain. NDUFC2 is essential for the assembly and activity of complex I, facilitating electron transfer from NADH to ubiquinone. Deficiency or decreased expression of NDUFC2 leads to mitochondrial dysfunction, increased oxidative stress, and impaired ATP synthesis. NDUFC2 dysfunction is implicated in the pathogenesis of several diseases including mitochondrial disorders, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular conditions such as stroke. Resveratrol, an antioxidant molecule, can counteract reactive oxygen species generation due to NDUFC2 deficiency, highlighting its relevance as a potential therapeutic target[1][2][3][5].
