Target intelligence / Profile preview
Neisseria meningitidis capsular polysaccharides are surface carbohydrates that define the serogroup of the bacteria and serve as a major virulence factor by inhibiting phagocytosis and complement-mediated killing. Serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 are commonly associated with invasive disease. The capsular polysaccharides from these serogroups are used in quadrivalent vaccines to induce protective immunity.
Induction of antibodies against capsular polysaccharides, leading to complement-mediated killing and opsonization of N. meningitidis.
