Meningococcal proteins, such as Outer Membrane Protein Complex (OMPC) and Class 2 Porin, are used as carrier proteins in conjugate vaccines. They convert T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent forms, enhancing immunogenicity and enabling effective immune memory formation. While OMPC was used in some early Hib conjugate vaccines, currently licensed meningococcal conjugate vaccines primarily utilize CRM197, TT, or DT due to manufacturing consistency and safety profiles.
