Target intelligence / Profile preview
Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B surface proteins—including factor H binding protein (fHbp), Neisseria adhesin A (NadA), Neisseria heparin binding antigen (NHBA), and PorA P1.4—are outer membrane proteins critical for meningococcal pathogenicity and survival in the host. fHbp enables immune evasion by binding human factor H, NadA acts as an adhesin facilitating attachment to human cells, NHBA mediates serum resistance and biofilm formation, and PorA is an immunodominant porin protein involved in host interactions and targeted by bactericidal antibodies. Together, these antigens are used as components in the Bexsero vaccine to induce broad protective immunity against serogroup B meningococcal disease[3][2][1].
Induction of bactericidal antibodies through immunization (vaccine mechanism — generation of protective immune response against these surface antigens, resulting in complement-mediated bacterial killing)
