Overview

NIFK (FHA domain) interacting nucleolar phosphoprotein pseudogene 1 (NIFKP1) is classified as a **pseudogene** in the human genome[3][9]. Pseudogenes are nonfunctional segments of DNA that are similar to known protein-coding genes, but are generally unable to produce functional protein products due to disruptive mutations such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[5]. NIFKP1 shows sequence similarity to the functional gene *NIFK*, which encodes a nucleolar protein that interacts with the FHA domain of the Ki-67 antigen and is implicated in cell cycle regulation[1][2]. However, as a pseudogene, NIFKP1 does not encode a functional protein and is therefore not a therapeutic target, nor does it have established biological functions, disease roles, or known drug interactions[3][9][5].
