NIN1 (RPN12) binding protein 1 homolog (NOB1)

Target
NOB1
Molecular classification
Endonuclease, RNA-binding protein, Ribosome biogenesis factor

Overview

NIN1 (RPN12) binding protein 1 homolog (NOB1) is an RNA-binding protein and endoribonuclease required for processing of 20S pre-rRNA precursor during ribosome biogenesis, specifically for the maturation and cleavage of 18S rRNA in the cytoplasm and formation of the 40S ribosomal subunit in eukaryotes. It may also play a role in mRNA degradation. NOB1 is not well-characterized as a drug target or clinical biomarker. It is associated with ribosome assembly pathways and related to disease mechanisms in Diamond-Blackfan anemia, but generally not regarded as a direct therapeutic target.
