Overview

Norovirus capsid protein VP1 is the major structural protein of noroviruses, forming the outer shell (capsid) of the virus. The GII.4 genotype is the most prevalent and epidemiologically significant variant, responsible for the majority of norovirus outbreaks. VP1 self-assembles to form virus-like particles (VLPs) and mediates attachment to host cells via interactions with histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs). GII.4 VP1 exhibits rapid evolution, particularly in surface-exposed regions that interact with host immune responses.
