Overview

The C11orf54-MED17 readthrough (ENSG00000284057) refers to a predicted gene fusion from readthrough transcription of C11orf54 and MED17 on chromosome 11. C11orf54 (also known as PTD012) is a zinc-binding ester hydrolase, recently identified as β-keto-L-gulonate decarboxylase in human pentose metabolism. C11orf54 is implicated in DNA damage response, DNA repair, cell proliferation regulation, and autophagy modulating pathways, and has been studied as a biomarker in renal and prostate cancers. MED17 encodes a core subunit of the Mediator complex, essential for bridging transcription factors and RNA polymerase II in gene regulation. There is currently no direct experimental evidence for a functional C11orf54-MED17 fusion protein, and its biological significance is unknown; the entry appears to arise from gene annotation or computational prediction rather than proven protein existence or therapeutic relevance.
