Novel transcript, antisense to DCT

Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA, Natural antisense transcript, Long non-coding RNA
01

Overview

This molecule is a naturally occurring non-protein-coding antisense RNA transcribed from the strand opposite the DCT (dopachrome tautomerase) gene. Natural antisense transcripts are widespread in eukaryotic genomes and often regulate sense gene expression through various mechanisms, including chromatin remodeling, modulation of sense transcript stability, interference with transcription, or participation in epigenetic modification. The vast majority of natural antisense transcripts, including this one, remain poorly characterized, and most do not have well-established functions or clinical relevance. There is currently no evidence to support a direct role of this specific antisense transcript in disease, and no approved therapeutics, biomarkers, or drug interactions are associated with it.
