Novel transcript, antisense to EBF3 (ENSG00000275005)

Target
ENSG00000275005
Molecular classification
Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), Natural antisense transcript (NAT)
01

Overview

This gene encodes a long non-coding RNA that is transcribed antisense to the EBF3 locus. As a natural antisense transcript (NAT), its functional relevance is currently unknown, but similar lncRNAs are often involved in regulation of their sense partner gene through various mechanisms—including modulation of transcription, transcript stability, and chromatin architecture. Antisense transcription in mammalian genomes is pervasive and often has regulatory consequences for the sense gene. For this specific transcript, there is presently no evidence for protein-coding potential, therapeutic targeting, or direct clinical relevance. Natural antisense transcripts (NATs) are widespread and functionally diverse; while some NATs regulate gene expression or have disease associations, most individual antisense transcripts—including ENSG00000275005—remain uncharacterized experimentally. The EBF3 gene (Early B-cell factor 3) encodes a transcription factor involved in neurogenesis, B-cell differentiation, and may act as a tumor suppressor; the antisense transcript in question is genomically adjacent but its direct functional consequences are not established.
