Overview

FBXO18-AS (Novel transcript, antisense to FBXO18) is a newly characterized long noncoding RNA, identified in gastric cancer tissues as significantly upregulated compared to normal tissue. Experimental studies indicate that FBXO18-AS promotes the proliferation, invasion, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of gastric cancer cells by modulating TGF-β1/Smad signaling both in vitro and in vivo. High expression is associated with poor clinical outcomes, suggesting its potential utility as a biomarker for diagnosis and a possible molecular target for therapeutic intervention in gastric cancer. The molecular mechanisms highlight its noncoding nature and regulatory role rather than classic receptor or enzyme activity[1][3]. LY2109761 is not a direct therapeutic for FBXO18-AS, but is used experimentally to inhibit the activated pathway downstream of the lncRNA’s function[1].

Mechanism of action

Not a direct drug target yet; experimental data show that inhibition of TGF-β1/Smad signaling (e.g., using LY2109761) can counteract the protumorigenic effects of FBXO18-AS[1]
