This RNA gene is a long non-coding transcript (lncRNA) that is transcribed from the strand opposite to the protein-coding gene FRMD4A (FERM Domain Containing 4A). As an antisense transcript (FRMD4A-AS1), it has the potential to regulate the expression, stability, or processing of the FRMD4A mRNA through complementary base pairing or by influencing the chromatin environment near the FRMD4A gene locus. General features of antisense lncRNAs include modulation of chromatin state (such as histone acetylation and nucleosome positioning) around the targeted promoter region, which can alter the dynamics of the associated sense transcript by affecting initiation, processing, and stability of the mRNA. No direct drug interactions, biomarkers, or clinical safety concerns are currently documented for this non-coding transcript.
