The gene ENSG00000290017 encodes a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) antisense to the GALNT7 gene locus. This RNA is classified as a natural antisense transcript (NAT)[1][3], and such RNAs are known to regulate the expression of their sense counterparts through several possible processes including transcriptional interference, RNA masking, and modulation of chromatin states[2][4][6]. Although the biological function of this specific transcript is not fully elucidated, antisense lncRNAs in general can modulate the expression of sense genes, influence mRNA processing or stability, and affect gene silencing via epigenetic modifications. There is currently no evidence that this antisense lncRNA is directly involved in disease or is a therapeutic target. Its sense gene, GALNT7 (Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 7), is a protein-coding gene implicated in cancer, but the role of the antisense transcript in pathology is not established[1][5][7].
