novel transcript, antisense to GNAI2

Molecular classification
Other (long non-coding RNA, natural antisense transcript)
01

Overview

A natural antisense transcript (NAT) to GNAI2 is a long non-coding RNA molecule transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the GNAI2 gene locus. Such antisense transcripts are increasingly recognized for their regulatory roles, typically influencing the expression, stability, or translation of their corresponding sense partner genes, here GNAI2. Mechanistically, antisense lncRNAs may act by sponging microRNAs, interfering with transcription, modulating mRNA degradation, recruiting chromatin modifiers, or altering local chromatin structure. However, this particular transcript (ENSG00000302205) does not encode a protein, has not been established as a direct therapeutic target, and lacks reported drug interactions or established disease biomarker roles.
