Novel transcript, antisense to GNAS

Molecular classification
Other (long non-coding RNA; lncRNA)
01

Overview

This gene (ENSG00000225806) encodes a putative long non-coding RNA that is transcribed antisense to the GNAS locus[4]. Antisense transcripts in general can regulate the sense gene at the level of transcription, RNA processing, mRNA stability, or translation, often via RNA masking, interference, or RNAi-related mechanisms[1]. The GNAS locus encodes the alpha subunit of the stimulatory G protein (Gsα), which is associated with critical endocrine regulatory pathways. While the antisense RNA at this locus may participate in imprinting regulation or gene silencing, there is no evidence that ENSG00000225806 itself is a therapeutic target, or that it encodes a receptor, enzyme, or other conventional druggable protein[2][4].
