Target intelligence / Profile preview

Novel transcript, antisense to KCNAB1 (ENSG00000272990)

Target
ENSG00000272990
Molecular classification
Non-coding RNA, natural antisense transcript (NAT)
01

Overview

Novel transcript, antisense to KCNAB1 is a non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 3, expressed in the antisense orientation to KCNAB1, a potassium channel regulatory subunit gene. Antisense transcripts such as this one frequently modulate gene expression of their sense counterparts through changes in chromatin architecture, transcription initiation and processing rates, and transcript stability. These effects are often conserved between yeast and humans and are associated with alterations in histone modifications near promoter regions, especially via interaction with chromatin-modifying enzymes like Set3C. There are no described protein products or direct interactions with pharmaceuticals; biological impact, if any, would be through gene regulation of KCNAB1 or nearby genes.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no drugs); regulatory of sense gene via chromatin and transcription modulation

03

Biological functions

Gene regulationmodulation of transcription/chromatin dynamics
04

Disease associations

Indirect through KCNAB1 (epilepsy, ataxia)none specific to the antisense RNA itself
