Natural antisense transcripts are RNA molecules transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to a known gene, here opposite LCN6. These transcripts often do not code for proteins, but instead regulate their sense gene partners (such as LCN6) at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level via mechanisms like transcriptional interference, RNA masking, RNA-RNA duplex formation (leading to RNA interference), and modulation of chromatin structure through recruitment of chromatin modifiers or alteration of DNA methylation[2][3][4]. While antisense RNAs are proposed to broadly regulate gene expression and sometimes participate in disease pathogenesis, “novel transcript, antisense to LCN6” itself is not a defined receptor, enzyme, or druggable target; its biological roles and clinical significance remain undemonstrated as of current knowledge[2][3][4].
