Antisense transcripts are widespread in both yeast and human genomes and act by mechanisms including transcriptional interference, RNA masking, double-stranded RNA formation, and chromatin modification. These processes can modulate the stability and processing of the sense mRNA, generally dampening its expression or altering transcript dynamics rather than encoding functional proteins. Antisense to SRF may regulate SRF expression epigenetically; however, there is no evidence that this transcript is a validated drug or therapeutic target, nor is it functionally classified as a receptor, enzyme, or classical target class. Furthermore, the identifier ENSG00000307823 does not map to a canonical Ensembl gene, implying a possible annotation, database, or nomenclature issue.
