The nuclear receptor subfamily 3, group C, member 1 pseudogene (NR3C1P, NR3C1P1) is a genomic locus closely related in sequence to the functional glucocorticoid receptor gene (NR3C1), but it does not encode a protein capable of functioning as a receptor. Pseudogenes like NR3C1P may arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events followed by loss of protein-coding capacity. Although pseudogenes can sometimes play regulatory roles as long non-coding RNAs, there is currently no evidence for a defined biological function or disease relevance of NR3C1P. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target and is distinct from the functional NR3C1 gene product—the glucocorticoid receptor— which is widely studied for its role in anti-inflammatory therapy, metabolism, and stress response[6][5][2]. Key distinction: If therapeutic targeting of the glucocorticoid receptor is intended, the relevant gene is NR3C1 (glucocorticoid receptor, GR), not its pseudogene (NR3C1P). Any pharmacological, clinical, or drug-target information for this pseudogene is not applicable.
