Overview

The mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), encoded by the NR3C2 gene, is a nuclear hormone receptor that mediates the effects of mineralocorticoids like aldosterone, regulating sodium and potassium balance and blood pressure. Upon ligand binding, MR translocates to the nucleus, dimerizes, and activates transcription of target genes like ENaC and Na+/K+ ATPase. Mutations in NR3C2 are associated with pseudohypoaldosteronism type I and early-onset hypertension exacerbated by pregnancy.
