Overview
The nucleocapsid protein (NP) of Marburg virus (MARV) is the major structural component of the viral nucleocapsid. It plays a central role in encapsidating the viral RNA genome, forming a left-handed helical complex that serves as a scaffold for nucleocapsid assembly and is essential for viral transcription and replication. It interacts with VP35, VP30, L, VP40, and VP24. The protein is heavily phosphorylated and only phosphorylated forms are incorporated into virions.
