Mechanism of action

Drugs influence plasma osmolality by altering electrolyte and water balance. Diuretics increase water and sodium excretion, reducing osmolality. Vasopressin analogs promote water reabsorption, increasing osmolality. Vasopressin antagonists block vasopressin receptors in the kidney, causing water excretion and decreasing osmolality.
