Porcine pancreatic α-amylase is an enzyme derived from pig pancreas that catalyzes the hydrolysis of starch into smaller sugars. It is used as a supplement to enhance digestive capacity, particularly in cases where endogenous amylase production is insufficient. It plays a central role in breaking down dietary starches into maltose and other oligosaccharides during digestion in the small intestine, which is essential for efficient carbohydrate absorption.
