Target intelligence / Profile preview

Papilin, proteoglycan like sulfated glycoprotein (PAPLN)

Target
PAPLN
Molecular classification
Extracellular matrix glycoprotein, Proteoglycan-like protein, Serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor (predicted)
01

Overview

Papilin is a secreted extracellular matrix glycoprotein that features domains related to properdin/thrombospondin type-1 repeats and cysteine-rich regions[1]. It is predicted to regulate the extracellular environment through serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity and participate in the organization of basement membrane structures[2][5][6]. Human mutations in PAPLN are associated with rare connective tissue and developmental disorders, but it is not presently considered a therapeutic target for drug development[2][3].
