Target intelligence / Profile preview
Peptidyl transferase is a ribozyme located in the large subunit of the bacterial ribosome. It catalyzes peptide bond formation between adjacent amino acids during protein synthesis. The enzyme is not a protein but rather an activity of ribosomal RNA (23S rRNA), making it one of the most prominent examples of catalytic RNA. The peptidyl transferase center is targeted by several classes of antibiotics that inhibit bacterial protein synthesis.
