The PI3K-Akt signaling proteins constitute a critical intracellular pathway that translates extracellular signals from growth factors and cytokines into essential cellular responses [1.2.1, 1.4.1]. This pathway is centered around the activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), which generates the second messenger phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate (PIP3), leading to the recruitment and activation of the serine/threonine kinase Akt (also known as Protein Kinase B) [1.3.1, 1.4.4]. Beyond cancer, the pathway plays a vital role in insulin signaling and metabolic homeostasis, making it a focus for research in diabetes and cardiovascular health [1.2.2, 1.4.1].
