Overview

PLA2G10CP is a human pseudogene related to the phospholipase A2 group X gene family, annotated as “phospholipase A2 group XC, pseudogene.” Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they arise from mutations or genomic rearrangements that prevent them from encoding active proteins. Although some pseudogenes have regulatory roles (such as acting as microRNA decoys or modulating the expression of their parent genes in specific contexts), PLA2G10CP itself is not established as having any functional or therapeutic relevance. A pseudogene is a DNA sequence similar to a functional gene but with mutations or deletions preventing its translation into a functional protein. Some may be transcribed into RNA and rarely have regulatory roles, but most are nonfunctional. Functional phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzymes, such as group X, are secretory or cytosolic enzymes involved in membrane phospholipid metabolism and have roles in inflammation and host defense; however, PLA2G10CP is not among these functional proteins, being a pseudogene instead. Since PLA2G10CP does not encode a protein, no drugs or biomarkers are known to interact with or depend on it. PLA2G10CP is not a suitable therapeutic target due to its status as a non-coding pseudogene; its inclusion in a target list would be considered incorrect in the context of drug discovery or pharmacological targeting.

Biological functions

Other (no direct biological function; pseudogenes do not encode active proteins, though in some cases they may act as non-coding RNAs or miRNA decoys in regulation)
03

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence, but some pseudogenes can act as regulators in cancer and other diseases—however, no specific disease association is known for PLA2G10CP)
