Overview

Pituitary tumor-transforming 3, pseudogene (PTTG3P) is a processed pseudogene and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 8q13.1.[5] Although originally annotated as a putative protein-coding gene, PTTG3P does not generate a functional protein and instead acts as a ceRNA, modulating the expression of oncogenic genes—most notably, PTTG1 and factors such as FoxM1—by sponging regulatory microRNAs (e.g., miR-132/212-3p).[1][5] PTTG3P is consistently overexpressed in a broad range of cancers, where its upregulation drives cell cycle progression, proliferation, DNA replication, and suppression of apoptosis, and is correlated with larger tumor size, metastasis, and poor prognosis.[1][2][3][5][6] It is not a drug target in the classical sense (e.g., receptor, enzyme), but is considered an oncogenic biomarker and potential future therapeutic target due to its regulatory role in malignancy progression.
