PMS1 homolog 2, mismatch repair system component pseudogene 14 (PMS2P14) is classified as a pseudogene, which means it is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence similar to a functional gene (in this case, PMS2). Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins and do not have known therapeutic, biological, or pathological activity. PMS2P14 is one of multiple noncoding pseudogenes that are related to the PMS2 gene family, whose functional members are critical for DNA mismatch repair, but PMS2P14 itself does not play a direct role in DNA repair or disease and is not a therapeutic target. Its primary significance is in genetic analysis, where the high similarity between PMS2 functional genes and their pseudogenes can complicate genetic testing and result interpretation[4][5][6].
