Overview

PMS1 homolog 2, mismatch repair system component pseudogene 6 (PMS2P6) is a pseudogene related to the functional PMS2 gene, which encodes a key protein for DNA mismatch repair. PMS2P6 does not encode an active protein and has no direct role in DNA repair, disease, or as a therapeutic target. Like other pseudogenes, it exists as a non-functional genomic sequence with high similarity to PMS2. The region containing PMS2 and related pseudogenes is genetically complex, complicating genetic testing of PMS2 due to sequence similarity and possible sequence exchanges. There is no established evidence that PMS2P6 is involved in disease, pharmacology, or as a clinical biomarker. Emerging research suggests that some pseudogenes may have regulatory effects, such as modulating transcription or competing for miRNA binding, but these are not specifically established for PMS2P6[2][3][4].
