Poliovirus Type 1 Antigen (Inactivated)

Molecular classification
Vaccine Antigen
01

Overview

Poliovirus type 1 antigen (inactivated) is a purified, inactivated form of the poliovirus type 1, used as a component of inactivated polio vaccines (IPV). It stimulates the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies, preventing viral spread and protecting against paralytic disease. The antigen is produced by propagating the virus in continuous lines of monkey kidney cells and then inactivating it with formaldehyde. It is administered via intramuscular or intradermal injection and has a highly favorable safety record.
