Poly(A) polymerase beta (PAPOLB)

Target
PAPOLB
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Transferase (poly(A) RNA polymerase)
01

Overview

Poly(A) polymerase beta (PAPOLB) is an mRNA-specific polyadenylate polymerase predominantly expressed in testis that facilitates polyadenylation of mRNA precursors during late spermatogenesis[3]. It adds poly(A) tails to the 3'-ends of pre-mRNAs, regulating mRNA stability and translation. It is encoded by the PAPOLB gene in humans (HGNC: 15970, NCBI Gene: 56903), is localized mainly to the nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum, and has paralogs including the more ubiquitously expressed PAPOLA[3].
