Poly(A)-polymerase-associated domain-containing protein 5 (PAPD5/TENT4B) is a noncanonical poly(A) polymerase involved in post-transcriptional quality control. It adds adenosine residues to the 3' ends of defective RNAs, marking them for exosome-mediated degradation. It plays a key role in regulating ribosomal, histone, and telomeric transcripts and is an emerging drug target for telomere biology disorders such as dyskeratosis congenita.
Inhibition of PAPD5 activity to prevent excessive oligoadenylation of target RNAs, thus preventing their degradation.
