Overview

Poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase (PARG) is the primary enzyme responsible for the degradation of poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR), a biopolymer synthesized by poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases (PARPs). PARG hydrolyzes the ribose–ribose bonds in PAR, reversing the modifications made by PARPs and thereby regulating cellular processes that depend on dynamic ADP-ribosylation. It plays roles in DNA repair, chromatin dynamics, transcriptional regulation, and cell death.
