Overview

PCBP2 pseudogene 1 (PCBP2P1) is a processed pseudogene of the PCBP2 gene in humans. Unlike the functional PCBP2 gene, which encodes a poly(rC)-binding protein involved in RNA binding and post-transcriptional gene regulation, PCBP2P1 does not code for a protein and is considered non-functional. It was listed in official gene catalogs (GeneID: 54040) but has been discontinued as of February 8, 2013, presumably due to lack of evidence for expression or function[4]. There are no reports of PCBP2P1 acting as a therapeutic target, interacting with drugs, functioning as a biomarker, or associating with specific diseases. No evidence for PCBP2P1 being involved in any canonical molecular pathways has been found in the available databases.\n\nAdditional notes:\n- The parent gene PCBP2 is a well-studied RNA-binding protein with roles in antiviral signaling and mRNA regulation[3][5][1], but PCBP2P1 itself is not functionally characterized.\n- Pseudogenes may sometimes regulate their parent genes by acting as competitive endogenous RNAs or producing non-coding RNAs, but no such function is documented for PCBP2P1.\n- PCBP2P1 should not be confused with PCBP2, which is a bona fide protein of biological and potential clinical significance.
