Overview

PCBP2 pseudogene 3 (PCBP2P3) is a processed pseudogene derived from the PCBP2 gene, which encodes poly(rC)-binding protein 2. Like most pseudogenes, PCBP2P3 lacks the ability to produce a functional protein and does not participate in recognized biological pathways or disease mechanisms. There is no evidence that PCBP2P3 itself acts as a receptor, enzyme, or any other class of druggable target. The functional PCBP2 gene, not PCBP2P3, is involved in mRNA stabilization, translational control, and other regulatory roles, but these functions are not attributable to the pseudogene[3]. Pseudogenes such as PCBP2P3 are fragments or copies of genes that have lost their protein-coding potential; they typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition but no longer encode active biological molecules. No therapeutic, diagnostic, or pharmacological relevance has been reported for PCBP2P3. All biological and disease associations found in the literature pertain to the functional PCBP2 gene or other related proteins, not to this pseudogene[3][1].
