Overview

Poly(rC)-binding protein 3 (PCBP3) is a member of the KH domain protein subfamily, also called alpha-CPs, which bind specifically to C-rich sequences in RNA. Unlike other alpha-CPs, PCBP3 is mainly cytoplasmic and lacks typical nuclear localization signals. It is involved in various post-transcriptional processes, such as regulation of gene expression via RNA binding, and is encoded by the *PCBP3* gene on human chromosome 21. Alternative splicing of the gene produces several transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. Its specific cellular roles and clinical implications remain under-studied, though a genetic association with dementia has been noted. No drugs, targeted mechanisms of action, or known biomarker/safety concerns are currently reported for PCBP3.
