Overview

Polycystic kidney disease 1 (autosomal dominant) pseudogene 4 (PKD1P4) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 16. It is a non-functional, duplicated segment derived from the PKD1 gene family, which includes the functional PKD1 gene that encodes polycystin-1, a key protein in the pathogenesis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. PKD1P4 does not code for a protein, nor does it play a documented biological or disease role, and is not a therapeutic target. There may be naturally occurring readthrough transcripts that involve this locus, but these are unlikely to be translated into functional protein.
